"Gap #1" Landscape Poster trees pines sunset field
In the hill country of Appalachia,I hay fields of small farms often butt tightly against wooded tracks of land. I have always been visually attracted to those edges where fields meet woods, even more so when the woods contain many pines. The silhouette of the trees is often stark, distinct and dark. This is especially true in the early morning and late evening hours. Such places evoke a wide range of emotions and memories and I find great satisfaction in depicting that edge in small watercolors. Gap #1 breaks the tree line and makes us wonder if there is another field on the other side. If we walked through the gap on the ridge, would we look down on another field, a small farm with cows or sheep or just more woods with maybe a mountain stream cutting through it? I can't help wondering what's on the other side.
