A strange little beauty from Biloxi’s Lopez & Dukate, this Fresh Fig Jam label is all warm Southern sweetness and oddball chromolithographic charm. Figs, leaves, bronzing, scrolls, ribbons, and that marvellous deep red-purple lettering sit against a rich red patterned border — restored from a varnished near-goner into a lush, elegant accent pillow. It has the feel of pantry treasure, Gulf Coast fruit, and old commercial art behaving far more grandly than fig jam had any right to behave.
