Frederic Remington was an American painter and writer known for art depicting the cowboys, soldiers and Native Americans of the Old West. His love of the rough heroic cowboys and soldiers took him west as a journalist/illustrator and he producing over 3000 paintings and drawings. This painting is called “Dash for the Timber” and depicts a band of cowboys galloping across the plains being pursued by an attacking Indian band. They are firing rifles back at their pursuers as they try to reach the safety of the timbers.
