Frauenkirche Germany Postcard

The Frauenkirche in Dresden is a magnificent Baroque Lutheran church that stands as a profound symbol of reconciliation and rebirth. Originally constructed in the 18th century, its grand stone dome, known as the 'Stone Bell', defined the city's skyline for generations. The church was completely destroyed during the devastating allied bombings of World War II in 1945, leaving a poignant pile of rubble that remained untouched for decades as a moving anti-war memorial. Following the reunification of Germany, an extraordinary international reconstruction effort rebuilt the church using original plans and thousands of salvaged stones, which now appear as distinctive dark patches against the lighter new sandstone.
