The 'Inazuma' crest, meaning 'lightning', is associated with fertility wishes. 'Ina' (rice) is linked to 'suzuki' (a tree with hanging clusters), symbolizing a fruitful harvest. The wish for a bountiful harvest led to the belief that the earth, seen as a mother, needed a 'husband' to fertilize it. The thunder god was considered this 'husband', with lightning representing the act of fertilization, making the rice ears fruitful. According to Toshio Nosaka's 'Comprehensive Overview of Japanese Family Crests', years with lightning in late summer to early autumn are believed to bring a bountiful harvest.

This mug was exactly as described. I have purchased the stainless steel one before and the white is a nice change (stainless steel inside). I found the lavender purple a little light for my liking but that's my fault. Next time I'll choose a more grapey purple.
