Florence cityscape - Ponte Vecchio over Arno river Postcard

This postcard features a Florence cityscape with the shop-lined Ponte Vecchio crossing the Arno River among the historic centre’s terracotta roofs. The present bridge dates to 1345, after a flood destroyed its predecessor, and goldsmiths replaced many earlier food trades there in 1593. Giorgio Vasari’s elevated corridor, created in 1565 for Cosimo I de’ Medici, passes above the bridge on its route between the Palazzo Vecchio and Pitti Palace.
