This design features the flag of Paris, which is the capital and most populous city of France. The City of Paris is the centre and seat of government of the Île-de-France, or Paris Region. Since the 17th century, Paris has been one of Europe's major centres of finance, diplomacy, commerce, fashion, science and the arts. A resident of Paris, France, is known as a Parisian. The flag of Paris (known in French as the "Drapeau de Paris") is vertically divided between the traditional colours of Paris, blue and red, both of which also feature in the city's coat of arms. The colours of Paris are the source of the blue and red stripes in the national French flag.
