Pale flowering grasses cover a slope strewn with hunks of basalt in this black and white photograph in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The large dark igneous rocks peek over the surrounding vegetation. Several of the lava rocks in the foreground form a strong diagonal from the lower right corner towards the upper left. Field of Basalt is a photo of contrasts: black, hard, old rocks and white, soft, young grasses.
