Fennec Fox in Jebil National Park Tunisia Postcard

Jebil National Park, located in the arid southern reaches of Tunisia near the town of Douz, is one of the country’s most important protected desert reserves. Encompassing part of the vast Grand Erg Oriental—the "Eastern Sand Sea" of the Sahara—the park features a striking landscape of sweeping sand dunes, rocky plateaus, and sparse vegetation. It serves as a crucial habitat for rare and desert-adapted wildlife, including the elusive fennec fox (Vulpes zerda), the world’s smallest canid. The park’s remoteness and minimal human development create a peaceful refuge for these shy, nocturnal animals. These foxes hunt insects, rodents, and plants under the cover of darkness.
