Equestrian Portrait of Emperor Napoleon - Carle Vernet Napoleon Bonaparte, a military and political genius, rose to prominence during the turbulent period of the French Revolution and went on to reshape the course of European history. Napoleon's crowning achievement came with the proclamation of the First French Empire in 1804, where he assumed the title of Emperor.
