Equality is the Gold Under the Rainbow ... LGBT ... LGBTQ ... Gay Pride ... Rainbow ... Equality ... Diversity stickers for envelopes, marriage announcements. This is entirely my own design. I began writing for Gay Equality at my age 18, 49 years ago as I write this now in 2019. I am age 67. In 2020 it will be 50 years ago. I wrote to Senator Chuck Percy and Congressman Robert Michel asking these Republicans to support Gay Rights as we then called the movement. Both offices sent me letters of regret. In 1976 ... 43 years ago ... I had signed letters for Gay Rights published in the Peoria Journal Star and read on local TV news. Occasionally my signed letters for Gay Rights were published in the Peoria Journal Star Saturday Forum and two newspaper writers each included my writings in their regular columns. One man called me complaining "How can you embarrass your father before his congregation by writing such letters? Your father is a good man" ... then he hung up on me. But I just got Caller I.D. so I called him right back and told him "Someone you know is gay and you do not even know it"... three months later, I met this man's gay son, David who also drove a car like mine. Both our cars were grey Mercury Cougars ... mine was darker metallic charcoal with medium red cloth interior ... David's was a lighter silvery grey.
