Epupa Falls Namibia Postcard

Epupa Falls is a spectacular series of cascading waterfalls along the Kunene River on the border between Namibia and Angola. Surrounded by wild baobab trees, fig trees, and makalani palms, the falls drop into a deep gorge, creating a stunning oasis in the middle of the arid, rugged Kaokoland landscape. It is a vital and sacred region for the semi-nomadic Himba people who inhabit the area. The word 'Epupa' translates to 'falling water' or 'foam' in the Herero language, a nod to the mist and spray generated as the river plunges over a 1.5-kilometre-wide stretch of rocky cliffs. The contrast between the rushing white water, the dark volcanic rocks, and the surrounding desert wilderness makes it one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in Southern Africa.
