Enchanted Rock Postcard

Enchanted Rock is located in the eastern Hill Country of Texas and is a pink granite pluton basolith, the largest monadnock in the United States.It rises 426 above the surrounding terrain achieving a height of 1825 above sea level. It is the exposed height of the Town Mountain Granite that was created about two and a half billion years ago. There is evidence of human visitation at the site beginning at least 11,000 years ago. It was considered a place of magical and spiritual powers by the Tonkawa, Apache and Comanche tribes of Native Americans. The first European to see the rock was probably Cabeza de Vaca in 1536.
