Emperor geese actually fly south to Unalaska Island for the winter. The weather in the Aleutian Islands is more temperate than the fierce cold found near the Arctic Circle where the emperor geese live during the summer season. The geese arrive in November, signalling the start of winter for Unalaska Island. When the emperor geese depart in May, flying north to their nesting grounds, they leave springtime behind them.
