Emperor Geese, Unalaska Island Postcard

The Aleutian Islands are the winter sanctuary for the emperor geese. They fly south to spend the winter in the bays of Unalaska, arriving between late October and mid November. In the spring the geese leave to fly north again. This photo of emperor geese gathered in the shallows was taken in Captain's Bay near Pyramid Creek. This handful of geese was only part of a much larger flock.
