Trillium, which is also known as wakerobin, tri flower and birthroot, is a perennial plant with single flower present in North America and Asia. Because the plant’s petals, leaves and sepals grow in pairs of three, one of the nicknames of this plant is “trinity flower” which gives a trillium flower potent Christian symbolism. A white trillium flower with green leaves and golden seeds is an emblem and official flower of the province of Ontario in Canada and as such has seen a sharp rise in usage in modern personal and civic Canadian heraldry.
