El Rocío Village Spain Postcard

El Rocío is a uniquely famous village in the province of Huelva, Andalusia, known for its unpaved, sandy streets and traditional, whitewashed Andalusian houses with large wooden doors and wrought-iron balconies. It is most renowned for the annual Romeria de El Rocío, one of the largest and most passionate pilgrimages in Christendom, where over a million pilgrims converge on horseback, in decorated carts, and on foot to honour the Virgen del Rocío. The central focal point is the impressive, massive Hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Rocío, which stands at the edge of the village near the expansive marshes of the Doñana National Park, offering a dramatic backdrop of wetlands and wildlife.
