This wonderful painting from the 1800s depicts the Montgomery Clan’s Eglinton Castle, its seat for hundreds of years, and is available on several items of merchandise for your enjoyment. Eglinton is the ancient home of the Montgomery clan chief, the Earl of Eglinton. The current structure is a Gothic castellated style, built between 1797 and 1802. The original castle was burnt by the Earl of Glencairn in 1528. The Montgomerys' first holdings were the Barony of Eaglesham and its Castle of Polnoon. Eglinton is located near Kilwinning, North Ayrshire, Scotland, and is open to the public as part of Eglinton Country Park.
