This portrait of Edward, Prince of Wales, who later became Edward VI of England, was painted around the year 1546. Edward was born on October 12, 1537 to Henry VIII of England and Jane Seymour. He became King of England at the age of 9 on January 28, 1547. He reigned for only six years, and died at age 15 of tuberculosis on July 6, 1553.
