Edinburgh Castle Gatehouse Ceramic Ornament
All visitors to Edinburgh Castle today pass through the imposing Gatehouse - overlooking the Esplanade and onto the Royal Mile - flanked on either side by the statues of Robert the Bruce and William Wallace. Above the entrance archway is displayed the Royal Arms of Scotland, alongside its monarch's motto: Nemo Me Impune Lacessit, or 'No-one Attacks Me and Gets Away With It!'
The gatehouse isn't as old as it looks. It was only built in 1887! Though naturally the castle inside is many centuries older.
