This design features a painting by the English artist Evelyn De Morgan (1855–1919). It shows a beautiful female nymph sitting in a tree. A dryad is a tree nymph, or tree spirit, in Greek mythology. Dryads are specifically the nymphs of oak trees, however, the term has come to be used for tree nymphs in general or human-tree hybrids in fantasy. Dryads were traditionally considered to be very shy creatures. The original artwork was painted in 1885.
