Donauschwaben Flag Ceramic Ornament

Flag of the Danube Swabians (Donauschwaben) designed by Hans Diplich in 1950. The Donauschwaben are ethnic Germans who settled in Hungary, Satu Mara (Romania), Vojvodina (Serbia), and Slavonia (Croatia) in the 17th and 18th centuries. After WWII, about half of the Donauschwaben were expelled from these areas (or executed). Donauschwaben diaspora communities are maintained in Germany and other western countries with many adopting this symbol. At the top of the shield is the German eagle, on the bottom of the shield the city of Temeswar (Timisoara) situated between the crescent of Islam and the sun of Christianity, connected by the blue Danube.
