Dolphin Fresco from the Minoan Palace of Knossos Mug

A Minoan fresco depicting the undersea scene of blue dolphins swimming with fish. Light blue tracing imitates the dance of refracting light underwater. A border of rosettes lines the bottom. The fresco adorned the "Queen's Megaron" in the palace of Knossos. The palace dates back to 1900 BC and was abandoned around 1300 BC. After its abandonment, the memory of Knossos persisted in the legend the Labyrinth and the half-man, half-bull, Minotaur. The site, excavated by Arthur Evans, is located near the modern city of Heraklion, Crete.
