Dolmabahçe Palace, located on the European coast of the Bosporus strait in Istanbul, served as the main administrative centre of the Ottoman Empire during its final decades. Built in the 19th century under the orders of Sultan Abdülmecid I, the palace represents a dramatic blend of traditional Ottoman architecture with European Baroque, Rococo, and Neoclassical styles. Its opulent facade stretches along the waterfront, showcasing grand columns, intricate stone carvings, and massive ornamental gates that face the shimmering sea. The interior of the palace is legendary for its sheer luxury, housing the world's largest collection of Bohemian and Baccarat crystal chandeliers, including a massive 4.5-tonne masterpiece gifted by Queen Victoria. The floors are adorned with exquisite Hereke silk carpets, and the walls feature gold-leaf detailing and paintings by renowned international artists. Beyond its imperial history, the palace holds deep national significance as the place where Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, spent his final days and passed away in 1938.
