About This Design
Diaz Point Namibia Postcard
Diaz Point is a rugged and windswept headland located near the town of Lüderitz, marking the spot where Portuguese explorer Bartolomeu Dias erected a stone cross, or padrão, in 1488. The site is characterized by its dramatic rocky coastline, where the cold turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean crash against jagged cliffs. A replica of the original cross stands proudly on a high rocky outcrop, connected to the mainland by a rustic wooden bridge that spans the churning surf below.
The area is also home to a charming, solitary lighthouse and a colony of braying Cape fur seals and Jackass penguins. The atmosphere is one of wild, desolate beauty, with the fog often rolling in from the sea to blanket the historic beacon. It remains one of Namibia's most significant maritime landmarks, offering visitors a profound sense of history amidst the powerful, unyielding elements of the Skeleton Coast.
