Diatom 13 Ernst Haeckel Fine Art Tote Bag

Diatom 13 Ernst Haeckel Fine Art Tote Bag

Diatoms are a major group of eukaryotic algae, and are one of the most common types of phytoplankton. Most diatoms are unicellular, although they can exist as colonies in the shape of filaments or ribbons (e.g. Fragillaria), fans (Meridion), zigzags (Tabellaria), or stellate colonies (Asterionella). Diatoms are producers. A characteristic feature of diatom cells is that they are encased within a unique cell wall made of silica (hydrated silicon dioxide) called a frustule. These frustules show a wide diversity in form, some quite beautiful and ornate, but usually consist of two asymmetrical sides with a split between them, hence the group name. Fossil evidence suggests that they originated during, or before, the early Jurassic Period. Diatom communities are a popular tool for monitoring environmental conditions, past and present, and are commonly used in studies of water quality. Scientists specializing in their study are sometimes called diatomists. This lithograh is from the 1904 work Kunstformen der Natur by German biologist, philosopher and artist Ernst Haeckel. Vintage artistic nature animal fine art.

Bought this for my daughter for her birthday and she absolutely LOVES IT!!! She’s had this for almost a month and she’s been over using it. It nice, simple and sturdy. The size is perfect and the quality is very good. I will definitely purchase more of these. And, who doesn’t like a bag? The writing (print) is absolutely gorgeous, discrete and classy at the same time. It’s the perfect personalized gift.

These bags were super cute (I purchased 3). The material is more of a canvas look & feel. The colour of the bag is slightly off white, but the letters look exactly as pictured. I took 3 photos in different lighting. Would recommend! I liked how there was an option to choose the font and colour of the name. The words are legible and the colours are exactly as pictured.
