What do you get when you cross a Congress and President doing everything possible to pose as defenders of public security with a security contractor industry looking to make a fortune off of September 11th, 2001? That’s right, you get the $60 billion-a-year, 200,000 employee –that’s larger than all but 13 of the largest companies in America - Department of Homeland Security! But before this amalgamation of 22 different agencies became the crotch-grabbing centre of the American police state it was just a figment in the fruitful minds of the Bush coterie, and the wet dream of thousands of socially awkward deviants, sociopaths, and idiots wishing for a way to monetize their ways. Then it happened, on August 5, 2002 President Bush said in a speech: "We're fighting ... to secure freedom in the homeland." Sure, all past Presidents had at least put up appearances before the DHS by referring to the U.S. as "the nation" or "the republic", and to its internal policies as "domestic". But President Bush had almost single-handedly changed the lexicon of domestic security, and the HOMELAND was born!
