Declaration of Arbroath Wallace Tartan Tea Towel

Declaration of Arbroath Wallace Tartan Tea Towel

This kitchen towel for supporters of independence for Scotland features the famous words from the historic declaration of Scottish independence known as the Declaration of Arbroath. It was originally written in Latin and signed on April 6th, 1320, at Arbroath Abbey, six years after Robert the Bruce defeated the English at Bannockburn in 1314. The stirring words in black lettering on a soft cream background read 'For as long as but a hundred of us remain alive, never will we on any conditions be brought under English rule. It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.' The border is the Clan Wallace tartan. The most famous member of the clan was William Wallace, another great Scottish patriot and freedom fighter. The design is inspired by the 700th anniversary of the Battle of Bannockburn taking place this year. The referendum on independence for Scotland from the Westminster government also takes place this year, on 18th September 2014, when people living and working in Scotland will vote on our country's future as an independent nation.

I was actually surprised by the quality. The material feels like it can handle the wash and the print seems to be set deep in the fibers. BUT I have not washed it yet. The printing was accurate and looks like it can handle washing.

Fabric is super soft and very absorbent, such high quality. I'm an interior designer so colours are very important to me, the printing & colours are exactly as shown! Matches my pink pyrex!
