Single-sided deaf people have no depth of sound. When people talk over each other - or the television is left on - then all noise layers over each other with no discernible features amongst them. It's confusing, disorientating, irritating in the extreme. One thing to watch out for with the unilaterally hearing is their mood. They're smiling through what amount to sound torture, and doing it oh so politely, in order that you don't feel bad. But it plays on their nerves. A feature of the condition is that SSD people sometimes just flip out and begin snapping, or becoming otherwise aggressive, over what seems like nothing. They've hit their limit and there's no more smiling through. If any SSD person tells you that they've never secretly imagined terrible things upon a crowd of people talking over each other, then they're lying.
