Ancient Korean Dancer Painting. Kim Hong-do, known by his pen name Danwon (1745 - 1806), was a Korean painter of the Joseon period. Danwon is known as the first Korean painter to extensively portray Korean daily life, in a manner similar to the Dutch Masters. Danwon's paintings are valued almost as much for the insight they shed on daily life in Joseon as for their artistic or aesthetic value.
