Dale Street, Liverpool, 1804 Postcard

The image here is of Dale Street, as was in 1804. Dale Street is another of Liverpool’s oldest streets, and since the middle-ages and up to the time of this scene (and of course, well beyond), was populous as well as prosperous. Along the road were several inns which served as arrival and departure points for the various stages, and many other lucrative successful businesses and of course, the monied families who owned them. This from a drawing by W. Herdman, presumably circa mid 1800s, which itself was based on a drawing by George Perry, showing how things were on Dale Street in 1804.
