Pronounced "ket-sel" this beautiful, intricate Quetzal perches over a colourful mehndi mandala background. Quetzal are of the species Pharomachrus and Euptilotis and the national bird of Guatemala. Quetzalcoatl, a feathered serpent-like deity in Mesoamerica, had a plume modelled after the tail feathers of the Quetzal, and many believe the myth may have been developed from sightings of the huge pterosaur Quetzalcoatlus before it became extinct.
