From a Cherokee word meaning "stand alone", Currahee mountain has an altitude of 1,735 ft., causing it to tower above the surrounding Smoky Mountain foothills. It was the training site for the American paratroopers of the 506th division which fought in WWII, as depicted in the HBO series, Band of Brothers. Currahee mountain can be found outside of Toccoa, GA, at the intersection of highway 123 and the highway 17 bypass.
