Cube Houses Netherlands Postcard
The Cube Houses of Rotterdam are a striking set of innovative buildings designed by architect Piet Blom in the late 1970s and completed in 1984. Rooted in the concept of 'living as an urban roof,' Blom tilted a conventional cube-shaped house by 45 degrees and perched it upon a hexagon-shaped pylon. Each house represents an abstract tree, and together, they form a dense, avant-garde village known as the Blaakse Bos (Blaak Forest). The structural design optimizes space by splitting the interior into three distinct levels, connected by narrow winding staircases.
