LOGO explained: ? Something to blow your mind! Deep question: If the Universe (COSMOS) is expanding, then what is it expanding into, and what is it expanding from? Why black? Space appears BLACK to us because it is a vacuum with no atmosphere to scatter light, so we only see light that travels in a straight line to our eyes, primarily from stars. While space is not absolutely black—it contains distant stars, galaxies, and a faint glow from the cosmic microwave background radiation—it is not bright because the vast distances between objects mean there isn't enough light reaching us to be scattered.
