Coat of arms of Friuli Tile

Restored from a 19th century book, this drawing by Hugo G. Ströhl is the coat of arms of Patrie dal Friuli showing the heraldic Eagle of gold spreading its wings, its head turned left, an open beak and red claws on a blue background. Its origin goes back to the Patrie dal Friûl, the historical Friulian state that was independent from 1077 to 1420 under the control of the Patriarch of Aquileia. As some areas of the Patrie del Friûl were at some point part of the Habsburg empire, Ströhl included this coat of arms in his famous work "Österreichisch-Ungarische Wappenrolle" (1890).
