Clovelly Print Postcard

Clovelly N Devon, overlooking Bideford Bay. From an original painting by Mijo B. Clovelly is quite unique in that it is a privately owned village. It's a fishing village and the harbor is reached by a steep cobbled street. In days gone past donkeys were used to carry goods up and down the hill. There are still donkeys there but they are mainly a tourist attraction now. The villagers use sleds these days to move things up and down the hill. The High Street is known as ‘Down-a-long’ by those who live at the top and ‘Up-a-long’ by those at the bottom. It boasts two fine pubs and tea rooms with their delightful Devon teas. Charles Kingsley can be seen at his writing desk and you can experience how Clovelly fisherman actually lived. There's even transport back to the top
