Clipper Ship Flying Cloud - Ship Blueprint SD Photo Print

Clipper Ship Flying Cloud - Ship Blueprint SD Photo Print

This vintage-style illustration depicts the celebrated American clipper ship Flying Cloud rendered against a warm sepia background that evokes the feeling of an old maritime chart or historical document. The sepia tone enhances the sense of age and authenticity, reflecting the mid-19th-century era when clipper ships dominated long-distance ocean trade. Fine linework outlines the ship’s graceful hull, towering masts, and intricate rigging, giving viewers a clear look at the complex engineering that allowed these vessels to achieve extraordinary speeds. The Flying Cloud was built in 1851 in East Boston by the famous shipbuilder Donald McKay, whose shipyard became renowned for producing some of the fastest sailing ships ever constructed. Commissioned by the New York shipping firm Grinnell, Minturn & Co., the vessel was designed specifically for speed and efficiency on global trade routes. Its sleek hull and three towering masts supported an enormous spread of sails, enabling the ship to capture strong ocean winds and travel vast distances quickly. The Flying Cloud gained worldwide fame during the era of the California Gold Rush when fast transport between the East and West coasts of the United States became crucial. In 1854, the ship completed a record-breaking voyage from New York City to San Francisco in just 89 days and 8 hours, a remarkable achievement for a sailing vessel navigating the long and dangerous route around Cape Horn. Measuring approximately 225 feet in length with a tonnage of about 1,782 tons, the Flying Cloud represented the peak of American clipper ship design. The sepia presentation of this illustration gives the vessel the look of a preserved historical blueprint, celebrating both its technological brilliance and its lasting legacy in maritime history. ⚓📜

Hi, this photo-poster is now located on my refrigerator. I thought it was going to be a poster-size poster because I don't understand the metric measurements that are posted on the website. It turned out to be the size of a photo and now has a place of honour on my fridge. Was originally intended for a friend, but I thought it applied to me too: "World's Best Cat Mom"! There a lot of us out there! The printing was excellent -- vivid colour; sharp contrast.
