Clipper Ship Flying Cloud - Blueprint ABD Jigsaw Puzzle
This striking blue-print style poster depicts the historic American clipper ship Flying Cloud, a vessel celebrated for its remarkable speed and graceful design. Built in 1851 in East Boston by famed shipbuilder Donald McKay, the ship represented the pinnacle of clipper ship engineering during the golden age of sailing commerce. The white linework against the deep blue background resembles traditional engineering blueprints, giving the image a technical yet artistic quality.
The illustration reveals the ship’s elegant hull and towering three-mast rig. Each mast carried multiple yards supporting large square sails, while an intricate network of rigging lines stabilized the masts and controlled sail positions. This complex arrangement allowed the Flying Cloud to capture powerful ocean winds and maintain exceptional speeds over long distances. Clippers were specifically designed for fast trade routes, transporting valuable cargo such as tea, silk, and goods associated with the California Gold Rush.
Owned by the New York shipping company Grinnell, Minturn & Co., the Flying Cloud became famous for its record-breaking voyage from New York City to San Francisco in 1854. The journey took only 89 days and 8 hours, setting a sailing record that stood for many years and showcasing the incredible performance of clipper ships navigating the long route around Cape Horn.
Measuring roughly 225 feet in length and displacing about 1,782 tons, the Flying Cloud combined size, strength, and speed in a beautifully balanced design. This poster-style blueprint captures both the technical sophistication and historical significance of one of the most celebrated sailing ships ever built.

This is a really nice puzzle however it is what I would call fragile while putting together. The pieces fit but are very loose, you need to be constantly pushing them together and when you remove a wrong piece a lot of other pieces come with it. However, the pieces themselves are a good thickness and sturdy. It also has more than one cut to the pieces which make it challenging. I really enjoyed this puzzle and it is definitely a hard one for me. The picture on the puzzle is very good quality. It shows the book cover very well and the detail is great. The size I chose I found was perfect in detail for me. It shows very well.

I haven't built it yet, but I like the small box it comes in. It is a gift, but I'm sure it will be great.
