Claude Monet - The Argenteuil Bridge Tile

Claude Monet - The Argenteuil Bridge Tile

The Argenteuil Bridge (Le Pont d'Argenteuil / Le Pont d'Argenteuil et les barques), 1874 - Claude Monet, oil on canvas. Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) was a French Impressionist painter. In 1874, the year of the first Impressionist exhibition, Monet painted the road bridge at Argenteuil seven times. In this version, sailboats at their moorings fill the foreground, while the bridge is reflected in the Seine. Firm outlines describe the boats and the bridge, whereas choppy brushstrokes render the reflections in the middle ground. The light on the masts and on the roofs of the houses along the bank becomes an occasion for playing complementary colours, orange against blue.
