Claude Monet - Haystacks, end of Summer Tile
Haystacks, End of Summer (Meules, fin de l'été), 1891 - Claude Monet, oil on canvas. Claude Monet (Paris, 1840 - Giverny, 1926) was a French Impressionist painter. The great stack campaign of 1890-1891 turned a fixed agricultural motif near Giverny into a sustained study of changing light and season. Monet worked on several canvases in parallel and returned to each when its particular effect reappeared. Paul Durand-Ruel acquired this painting directly from Monet on 9 May 1891, the same month he exhibited fifteen stack paintings in Paris. The show was a triumph and confirmed the success of Monet's new approach to working in series. The canvas entered the French national collections in 1975, thanks to an anonymous gift from Canada.
