This postcard features a bronze statue in Lafayette Square in Washington D.C. The statue is of Andrew Jackson as he appeared following the battle of New Orleans. The cannons surrounding the memorial are four rare Spanish cannons he captured in Pensacola. This is the first equestrian statue ever erected in the U.S. It was commissioned in 1847, cast in 1852 and dedicated in 1853. Photo credit: Cliff1088, 2008.
