Church of the Good Shepherd New Zealand Postcard

On the shores of Lake Tekapo and surrounded by the Southern Alps, sits the Church of the Good Shepherd. It has a charming stone facade and was built as a memorial to the pioneers of the Mackenzie region. On January 15, 1935, the foundation stone was laid by HRH the Duke of Gloucester. The builders of the Church of the Good Shepherd were instructed that the site be left undisturbed and that even the matagouri bushes which surrounded the building were to remain untouched. The church is interdenominational and services are held regularly throughout the year. The church has been home to thousands of weddings but no photography is allowed inside the church.
