Christmas Angel Burne-Jones Note Cards

(Tempera was a medium favored by Italian Renaissance artists and involved the fusion of pigments with water and egg yolk. Burne-Jones was one of the few -- if not the only -- Aesthetic Movement artists to revive its use. The artist retained this work in his own studio for ten years before parting with it to the dealers from whom it was immediately bought. Ah, I can understand why the artist was loathe to part with it, and why a buyer immediately snapped it up.
