The Christ the Redeemer statue is a monumental Art Deco icon of Jesus Christ in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, completed in 1931 atop Corcovado Mountain. Standing 30 metres (98 ft) tall on an 8-metre pedestal, the 635-tonne reinforced concrete statue is clad in soapstone tiles and symbolizes welcome, peace, and Christianity. It's a significant cultural icon for Brazil and Rio, a major tourist attraction, and was named one of the New 7 Wonders of the World.
