Chipmunks are small, striped rodents in the family Sciuridae. They are found in North America, with the exception of the Siberian chipmunk which is found in Asia. Chipmunks are mostly omnivores and usually eat seeds, nuts and other fruits, and buds. They also like to eat grass, shoots, other plants, as well as fungi, insects and other arthropods, small frogs, worms, and bird eggs. Chipmunks dig two types of extensive burrow systems; shallow burrows in which they seek refuge while foraging during the day, and deeper, more complex burrows where they nest, store food and spend most of the winter months.
