Celtic Knot Carpet Page medieval manuscript book Small Gift Bag
This is a digital painting of a ‘carpet page’ decoration in the Book of Durrow, an 8th century medieval illuminated manuscript from either Iona Abbey in Scotland or Durrow Abbey in Ireland. Carpet pages were pages where the illumination filled the entire space rather than having a mixture of writing and painting, and also of course the image looks rather like a carpet. This elaborate Insular design is made of a variety of blues and green as well as some yellow. Art by Letizia Morley.
