Castles Sinclair-Girnigoe – Clan Sinclair Metal Ornament

A pink and brown watercolor painting captures what's left of the two adjoining castles that served as the seat of the Scottish Sinclair Clan for centuries. The joint seat is comprised of a 15th-century Castle Girnigoe and the early 17th-century Castle Sinclair, joined by a drawbridge. They are located near Wick in northeastern Scotland. Girnigoe was “an adapted five-story L-plan crow-stepped gabled tower house, which sat upon a rocky promontory jutting out into Sinclair Bay.” The vaulted ceiling of the kitchen of Girnigoe was outfitted with a secret chamber. Castles SInclair-Girnigoe are now in ruins located on the east coast of Caithness, Scotland, 3 miles north of Wick.
