It depicts the English theologian and religious scholar John Henry Newman, who started out as an Anglican priest and later became a Catholic priest and cardinal. John Henry Newman was canonised as a saint in the Catholic Church in 2019. Newman's beatification was proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI in 2010 during his visit to the United Kingdom.
