Canada Parliament Buildings Snow Ottawa River Postcard

Canada Parliament Buildings Snow Ottawa River Postcard

A great keepsake or souvenir postcard, the Canadian Parliament Buildings with lots of snow, as seen from across the Ottawa River in early spring, north shore of Gatineau (Hull) Quebec, Canada. The Parliament Buildings are the seat of the Federal government. The tall tower with clock face is the Peace Tower. A large part of these buildings, aka the Centre Block, burnt down in 1916 and were reconstructed in the Gothic Revival style, finishing with the Peace Tower in 1927. The round building with brown pointed roof is the Parliamentary Library, the only edifice that survived the blaze. The Library is done in Late Victorian style. The buildings are sandstone, and the big rock they're sitting on (Parliament Hill) is a limestone outcropping. The roofs of the buildings are copper - as time goes on they tarnish and become brown, then green. Usually there's some construction or cleaning going on but in this picture, taken in early spring of this year, you get a nice overall view of the structures without the scaffolds. The Ottawa River is open in the middle due to the current, but frozen towards shore. It forms the border between the two Canadian provinces Ontario and Quebec. This design is great as souvenir of Canada, for friends and family, a lovely view of an Ottawa landmark from the shores of French Canada ... eh, Quebec. Photo by M Sylvia Chaume, Quebec, Canada.
